Three Years Out: The Countdown Is On

As the city of Los Angeles gears up to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, organizers have officially unveiled the competition schedule, giving fans and athletes a first glimpse of what to expect at this historic third Games hosted by LA.

Changing the Game: Athletics Lead the Way

In a departure from tradition, the LA28 schedule flips the usual order of events by starting with athletics (track and field) competitions in the first week. These events will build to a dramatic finish with the marathon on the final weekend. Swimming events will follow in the second week, wrapping up with the finals at SoFi Stadium.

World-Class Venues Across Southern California

The 2028 Olympics will showcase a wide variety of venues throughout the region:

  • Venice Beach will host the triathlon and marathon starts.

  • SoFi Stadium in Inglewood will be the site for swimming finals.

  • The iconic LA Memorial Coliseum will host athletics and the Closing Ceremony.

  • Dodger Stadium is slated for baseball and softball games.

  • Crypto.com Arena will hold artistic gymnastics and boxing finals.

  • BMO Stadium will feature new sports like flag football and lacrosse.

  • Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area will be home to BMX, skateboarding, and 3x3 basketball.

  • Long Beach will host sailing and beach volleyball events.

New Sports Make Their Olympic Debut

The LA28 Games will feature 844 medal events across 40 sports, including exciting new additions:

  • Flag football

  • Squash

  • Lacrosse (Sixes format)

  • Cricket (T20 format)

Boxing also returns to the Olympic program after a break, with preliminary bouts at the Peacock Theater and finals at Crypto.com Arena.
